(More customer reviews)The first time I tried these I was at the mall. Shopping was taking longer than expected and I forgot my protein bar. Not wanting to divulge on junk food or bad snacks I went to a nutrition center. They didn't carry Zone bars, which are my normal stand-by snack, so I grabbed one of these. The nutrition compared to the Zone bars I normally have, and the ingredients looked pretty sound (as in; not crap), so I bought it without even looking at the flavor.
As I was opening it up I saw it was Cherry Almond flavor. I'm not a big fan of chocolate covered cherries, but when I opened the package it smelled good - and didn't have the 'protein bar smell' if you know what I mean.
My first bite:
Yummm - 'this isn't bad at all' I thought! I typically only eat half a bar when using it for a snack between meals, this one was so good I ate half, waited about 10 minutes and ate the other half too!
There was NO nasty protein bar after-taste either.
I was reminiscent of chocolate covered cherries, but not so sickly sweet or fake tasting; my best description would be more of a gourmet chocolate covered cherry! I must say there was very little almond flavor.
The consistency:
Good - not too hard/soft - not too chewy or gritty - it was nice!
I have also tried the Cookie Dough flavor. I liked that one too - it's not REAL cookie dough, but let's be real, you can't expect it to taste like real cookie dough and still have a nutritionally sound bar that's not filled with fake 'stuff'. I think its flavor is a treat that will make your tummy happy and your taste buds satisfied. Overall I bought a box of 5 and will happily eat them and probably buy another box. (-:
I know everyone's taste buds are different, but I can't imagine anyone thinking these are 'nasty' - I would suggest trying it for yourself.
I bought the Peanut Butter flavor too, but haven't got to try it out yet.
I give this bar pretty high marks for: tasting good, nutrition, having a good consistency and not having too many additives and JUNK in them. *high five*
