(More customer reviews)Amika products just flat out work! I decided to buy this product after my sister had purchased one for herself and persuaded me to let her straighten my hair with her iron. My hair had never been so flat and SMOOOOOTH. It turns out everyone she's done this to has ended up buying Amika flat irons, and I was no exception.
Unlike my sister's flat iron, this one has wider plates, is a little heaver and you can be used it wet to dry your hair, which the other Amika irons don't do. This saves you loads of time in the morning when you're prepping for work or school. For the record, I have thick, wavy shoulder length hair that just looks like cr*p without some form of styling.
I've NEVER been able to get my hair totally straight, no matter how long I sat there blowing hot air at my hair with a tough bristle brush, no matter how many times I went back to fix spots, it just never was going to submit. It was even worse when I lived in Florida with all the humidity. Now, with this iron my hair not only gets straight, it stays straight for days, EVEN in south Florida weather! And this is without the addition of straightening balms or products of the like; its just the iron.
Regarding the issue of the weight of this flat iron, I think if you can hold a hair dryer and a round bristle brush while trying to get your hair straight, this should be no problem. Its definitely less of a hassle for me. Plus, since the plates are larger that means more coverage and faster completion time. Bottom line: This is gold to anyone who needs a flat iron that actually straightens your hair superbly and makes it look and feel healthy and smooth to boot!
