(More customer reviews)Amika products just flat out work! I decided to buy this product after my sister had purchased one for herself and persuaded me to let her straighten my hair with her iron. My hair had never been so flat and SMOOOOOTH. It turns out everyone she's done this to has ended up buying Amika flat irons, and I was no exception.
Unlike my sister's flat iron, this one has wider plates, is a little heaver and you can be used it wet to dry your hair, which the other Amika irons don't do. This saves you loads of time in the morning when you're prepping for work or school. For the record, I have thick, wavy shoulder length hair that just looks like cr*p without some form of styling.
I've NEVER been able to get my hair totally straight, no matter how long I sat there blowing hot air at my hair with a tough bristle brush, no matter how many times I went back to fix spots, it just never was going to submit. It was even worse when I lived in Florida with all the humidity. Now, with this iron my hair not only gets straight, it stays straight for days, EVEN in south Florida weather! And this is without the addition of straightening balms or products of the like; its just the iron.
Regarding the issue of the weight of this flat iron, I think if you can hold a hair dryer and a round bristle brush while trying to get your hair straight, this should be no problem. Its definitely less of a hassle for me. Plus, since the plates are larger that means more coverage and faster completion time. Bottom line: This is gold to anyone who needs a flat iron that actually straightens your hair superbly and makes it look and feel healthy and smooth to boot!

(More customer reviews)Just so you understand where I am coming from, I have the coarsest black African hair that I know of and when I used this flat iron at home, my hair looked better than it normally did just leaving the salon. Granted I have very thick hair and normally not enough time to part out the recommended little sections for straightening; even with big sections and a few passes (therefore more than 1), my hair was silkier than many hair extensions, once I was through. The silky texture lasts for over a week, even through humid weather. I don't use heating elements on my hair very much but when I first got this flat iron, it worked so well, I used it quite a bit and it didn't damage my hair. I'll point out that I took care to use heat-protecting serums and conditioners before I used the flat iron. As someone who has tried many a hair product and has a big box of hair dryers, curling irons and flat irons, this is by far the best flat iron I have ever used. It has worked better in my hair than CHI irons or GHD irons. And at $50 from Amazon Supersaver(+free shipping), it is a steal (seriously, market value for these irons sits at around $200). The best bang for your buck, no doubt.
When I read reviews of products, I am always looking for the review that tells me yes, buy this product, it's worth your money and will serve you well. Though I rely on reviews, I don't often post any online but this flat iron deserves it. It is that good!

(More customer reviews)I went to Conair's website to see what this straightening iron looks like. Sure enough, the plates are covered with fabric. Don't let that deter you though. Your ironing board is covered with fabric, right?
My hair is straight, but I find straightening irons far more effective and easy to use to style my hair. And this one is the best I've tried yet. It gets plenty hot, but also has settings that are low enough to style fine hair without damaging it. It heats up quickly, and the 1 1/2" wide plates are perfect for styling all but the shortest hair.
I'm so glad I bought this. I may get more for my nieces. One has her eye on a very expensive straightening iron, but this really is perfect for her. And mine is purple, another plus. I love purple :)

(More customer reviews)I have owned Herstlyer products before so I knew this package was for me. I primarily wanted it for the Hair Straightener but the price was so low when I bought it ($54 with S&H) that it made more sense to buy all three instead of spending more on just one item.
My last straightener lasted over 3 years which is pretty good considering most other brands last under a year.
My hair has less frizz and breakage than with any other heating element I have used on my hair. It truly is amazing on what it can do. I must say that adding product to your hair before styling is a bad idea. My last iron was permanently discolored from doing so. Plus with the level of heat, you shouldn't need anything for sraightening.
I love the grande baby curl. While I did sustain some burns at first, the more I did it and get used the angles I needed to hold the curler at, I became very good at doing no harm to myself. The extra bonus it that my hair doesn't hold curls very long but with a LITTLE hairpsray, it stays. It curls well but after 2 hours, it has almost all fallen out. Because of that I would spray so much product on it that it would be crunchy but it's what I had to do. I do spray my hair after it is all curled but never before. It will stay in for a day this way. I did curl it without spraying and it stayed in for a good 4 hours but did fall eventually.

(More customer reviews)I was suspect of the need for "ceramic ions" and "far infrared technology", but this iron was highly recommended by salon personnel, so I decided to dish out the money and try it. You don't need to believe the hype to realize that this is a top quality product. This was a case of "you get what you pay for"! It is lightweight and ergonomic, heats up almost immediately, has a slider bar for varying heat from 176-356F (80-180C), and velvety felt that protects you from burns (also allows me to get closer to my ears and scalp without getting burned). The latter feature is worth the money to me alone, and the the ceramic feels much gentler to my hair (I have baby fine hair very prone to breakage). Two other things to keep in mind when choosing a straightener:
1) size matters - smaller size is better - it's more maneuverable, and doing smaller sections at a time will produce better results.
2) not all ceramic is created equal - there are solid ceramic plates or plates COATED with ceramic that are cheaper. the ceramic layer on the coated plates can peel off and is supposedly damaging to your hair (not to mention your product is ruined).
so yes, this iron is more expensive, but hopefully it will last for years of top-notch straightening.
(Note: The box says 0.07", but the iron is actually 0.7" [=7/10 of an inch])

I tried regular flat iron even those Ionic ones and my hair felt so dry and dull. Plus, the tinyest bit of moisture and BOOM! my hair an afro again! From TV, I learned about the "infra red heat" flat iron so I looked it up here (so I can get a great price and I did)! It came on time and I am part scientist so I did trail tests to see if it was like the others. The first try of a section of my hair was just regularly flat iron by an ion iron, it produce a medium straight and dull shine. The second section was again used by an ion flat iron but with hair spray. It was straight and shiney but hard and NOT flexible. The last section was done by this new product HAI ceramic flat iron and in one pass ONLY it was straight and shiney without any conditioner or hair spray. O, my Goddness, it was so beautiful! And with very little baby oil it had even more of a gorgeous shine. AND here the greatest part it also lasted through the day despite that it was very "stuffy-damp" and "hot" outside BUT MY HAIR LOOK GREAT! So, now on Monday I can rock my afro puffs then on Tuesday I can shake my silky straight hair then on Wednesday back to afro puffs!

I'm used to spending anywhere from $0 to $150 trying to find the best straightening iron. I can honestly tell you that this flat iron is a steal at less than $30!
When I looked over the instructions I saw that it heats up in less than 25 seconds. I can verify that this is completely true. I'm sure you were like me and had to turn your flat iron on, walk away and take care of other things, and then straighten your hair. Not with this one. I haven't had any issues with it snagging my hair and it actually gets hotter than I need it to which is a rarity for my thick hair. The ionizer that it has really does make my hair noticeably smoother and softer.
