Nature's Path Organic Flax Plus Raisin Bran Cereal, 14-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 4) Review

If you've never had flax seed oil before, you may notice a slightly "off" flavor to Nature's Path's version of raisin bran. I think even flax newbies will habituate to this taste, especially because of the familiar taste of the multi-grain flakes and the raisins (see other reviews). As one who sometimes puts a tablespoon of flax seed oil on top of oatmeal, the flax seed flavor was a welcome change from the usual cold cereal offerings.
THis cereal is pretty darn good for you> Obviously, you're gonna want to consult a doctor or nutritionist, and I am neither. From a lay person's pont of view, however, the 11 grams of fiber("11 WHOPPING grams," I should say--that's way more than oatmeal, and more than bran flakes or any other hot or cold cereal I've seen) 600 grams of Omegas and no saturated fat all sound very good for you. If offers 20% of the Daily Value of iron (see nutritional information below), without any added iron! Very rare. Perhaps it has to do with all those organic grains (and raisins): Organic whole wheat flour, organic wheat bran, organic oat bran, organic barley malt extract. (See below for a complete list of ingredients.)
Nature's Path is making some of the most interesting cereals around, with healthy organic ingredients not often found in other products (e.g., pomegranites, pumpkin seeds). You can get a good idea of the breadth and depth of their products by visitng their website at naturespath.com
Nutritional Information without milk (per serving, or 3/4 cup, about 55 grams; 7 servings per container). 180 calories, 10 from from; 2.5 grams(g) of total fat, no saturated or trans fat, 600 mg of Omega 3 and also of Omega 6, no cholesterol, 280 mg sodium (12% of the daily value for a person on a 2,000 calorie diet), Total Carbohydrate, 41g (14%0, Dietary Fiber, 11g (28%), Sugar, 16 g, 4% Daily Value of of Calcium, 20% of Iron.
Ingredients. Be careful what supplier you select. It shouldn't be Nutricity. From Amazon, the G&B bars (made in Canada) arrive promptly; I've ordered them several times and will again. My first (and last) order from Nutricity, however, arrived a month after the order had been placed, and then only after an inquiry to the seller. The bars were dry, stale and hard, the color of cocoa powder rather than chocolate bars. Although the bars still had 10 months to go before expiration of the sell-by date on the wrappers, they were a disgrace to the good name of G&B. It may be that they had been stored improperly, or that the single paper wrapper used in the Italian plant (the Canadian maker uses an inner foil wrap) allowed too much air to get to the bars. I'll grind them for hot chocolate, but they are unsuitable for eating directly and very similar in quality to the bars one sometimes finds at mass-market outlets that resell overstock from other retailers.

70% Cocoa content - A combination of cocoa liquor and cocoa butter. The latter is there to coat each individual cocoa and sugar particle, allowing the chocolate to melt beautifully and cleanly in the mouth, revealing intense, bittersweet chocolate aromas. We select only the finest organic ingredients and take extra time and care to bring out the intense flavor that has become our trademark. Suitable for vegetarians & vegans. Made on a peanut free site. USDA organic. Green & Black's is certified organic by the California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF). Made in Italy.

I have become self- educated in the world of baby formulas over the past nine months and during this time I have noticed a few differences from one brand to the next that make some of them superior choices to others. Most all baby formulas that I have sampled have been good, but some have definitely stood out in the crowd for one reason or another. Among the brands I have tried, Bright Beginnings is my favorite of all.
I first noticed Bright Beginnings at my local grocery store but I wasn't convinced to give it a try until a $5.00 off coupon in a magazine caught my attention. I already knew, from my encounter at the grocery store, that Bright Beginnings was less expensive than other brands. The $5.00 off was icing on the cake and it convinced me that this new product was worthy of my attention. I purchased a large canister (they don't sell small canisters of Bright Beginnings), handed the cashier my $5.00 coupon, and headed home to give this product a try.
So what does Bright Beginnings have that other formulas do not? Well, in many ways it is very similar to the best brands of formula on the market. It has similar vitamin and mineral content as the better known formulas and the protein, carbohydrate, and fat content levels are very similar to these other popular brands. It also contains DHA and ARA- just like the other brand names. But with Bright Beginnings, your baby gets a larger dose of these important fatty compounds. With the DHA, Bright Beginnings offers 19 grams per serving- a figure that is from 2 to 11 grams greater than the popular brands. With ARA, Bright Beginnings offers 34 mg, which is an amount equal to or better than the leading brands. Looking at the overall numbers, Bright Beginnings is the clear winner in this area, with a superior dosage of these important acids.
Another important component of Bright Beginnings is its composition of proteins. This product contains whey protein, a type of protein that is more easily digested by infants. This, and the other proteins contained in Bright Beginnings, is portioned out to make them as close as possible to actual breast milk. The manufacturer wanted to make Bright Beginnings as similar as possible to the real thing and they have succeeded in creating a product that is almost as good as natural breast milk.
Yet another reason to love Bright Beginnings is its price relative to other baby formulas. As any parent knows, Baby formula is one of the most expensive of all baby products. If you break it down in cost per day, formula costs more than diapers, baby wipes, or any other baby item. The brand name formulas sell for about $13 for one small canister. This small size canister contains slightly less than 13 oz. of formula, equaling a cost per ounce of about $1.00. But with Bright Beginnings, the canister is 31.7 ounces and the regular price is about $18. This works out to only 57 cents per ounce, a price that is substantially less than regular formula. Not only will this save money over the long run, the large canister means fewer trips to the store. From my experience, one of those small cans of formula produces about 96 ounces of formula and is good for only about four days of feeding (96 ounces equals 16 six ounce servings; 16 six ounce servings equals 4 servings per day for four days). But with this larger canister, there is enough formula for 240 ounces of formula- enough to last ten days. This means less frequent trips to the grocery store, less stress, and less overall cost.
Are there any drawbacks to purchasing Bright Beginnings infant baby formula? I can only think of a few small things worth mentioning. First is the obvious: Bright Beginnings is not yet as popular as some of the other brand names and thus it is more difficult to find. I have not seen it for sale at all in most larger stores. Even the large baby warehouse stores often do not carry Bright Beginnings. This will slowly change in the future as the product grows in popularity but for now it isn't easy to find. The only other small complaint I have with Bright Beginnings is its tendency to clump and not dissolve to completion. It takes just the right temperature (warm, but not boiling) and a good deal of shaking to eliminate this problem. But other than that, Bright Beginnings is easily digested; creates few bubbles and little gas; and is easy to feed to your infant baby.
Overall, Bright Beginnings is my favorite baby formula thus far and it is one of the few baby products I have used that has proven to be above average or superior in every quality measurement. It offers great nutritional content; high levels of DHA and ARA; easily digestible proteins; larger packaging; and lower overall cost, making it a superior product.

He is very regular; I think it is because of Happy Bellies cereal. Thank you Happy Baby for another great product! PS - The old cereal containers made great toys! He loves to take the lid on and off and hide other toys inside :)!

100% natural: We support sustainable agriculture. No pesticides, no chemical fertilizers, no genetically engineered ingredients (GEIs).
Enriched: with iron, vitamins and minerals.

Probiotic protection: Good bacteria especially formulated to help strengthen your baby's digestive system which can protect against the development of allergies.
Dr. Sears on probiotics "Baby foods with probiotics are a great way to make sure your baby’s system has plenty of what I like to call "good bowel bugs." These healthful bacteria strengthen intestinal immune defenses by crowding out "bad" bacteria-like the kind that can bring on a bout of diarrhea. Probiotics also help prevent allergies. The gastrointestinal (GI) tract is the body’s largest immune organ. The better you feed baby's GI tract, the better you feed baby’s immune system."

Baby's Only Organic Toddler Formula Powder 12.7 oz Review

Baby's Only Organic Toddler Formula Powder 12.7 oz

My 8 month old son gets 50% breast milk, 50% formula. Of course breast is best, but we all know how that goes when returning to work...supply was not possible to be met for my son. The week I went back to work, be it stress, lack of time with baby latching on, etc...I couldn't pump nearly enough..If you're like me, and need to supplement, even if you don't want to, consider this about Baby's Only Organic formula:
1. No synthetic DHA added. Recent findings show that DHA added to infant formula (in all cases of organic formulas including Earth's Best, except Baby's Only) is extracted from fungus and algae, using hexane solvents, bleach etc - As a biochemist, this is disconcerting. Hexane is a human neurotoxin and narcotic agent. Organic ingredient? Not in the slightest. It will damage nerves, brain, heart and who knows what else. Believe it or not, the FDA doesn't have a regulation on hexane extractions in food.. . The best source of DHA are natural sources, not synthetic. Good DHA sources are animal-based (eggs, fish, meat, etc) and of course are found in breast milk. The fact that no synthetic DHA is included was the #1 seller for me on this formula. Also, Baby's Only manufacturer sells a separate supplement of DHA that you can add to the formula, which is egg-yolk based - all natural. Some might be concerned about egg allergies - Most egg allergies come from the proteins in the egg white, not the yolk, but in the very rare chance that the egg yolk could cause an allergy, it's nice that they sell it separately and not mixed in the formula.
2. Only 60% lactose may be a good thing...in response to ahbnyc's comment
"Earth's Best uses Lactose as their primary sugar (carb source). In human breast milk, lactose is almost the exclusive source for carbs...exactly the same as Earth's Best. Again on the Baby's Only website they claim lactose to be inferior to their brown rice syrup. How can they do this?? They show no evidence to support their claim, especially when Lactose is what's in breast milk!!"
According to the American Pregnancy Association, lactose accounts for approximately 40% of the total calories provided by breast milk. Why is it that when infants are started on lactose-based formula, so many have problems digesting it and then many assume they are lactose intolerant and are given soy or lactose-free formulas?? Isn't this counter intuative if human milk is lactose based? True lactose intolerance in babies is extremely rare - Did anyone ever wonder if the commercial formulas contain WAY more lactose than a baby's sensitive system can handle and way more than is found in breast milk? It is possible to have too much lactose in a baby's diet and this may be why they have problems when switched to formula while the same baby may be fine with breast milk. Also, lactose is a simple sugar which easily spikes insulin levels, contributing to overly plump babies that have a higher risk of obesity later in life. Just look at the growth chart differences of formula-fed vs. breast-fed babies. Rice syrup takes longer to break-down as it's more complex, and won't spike insulin levels like lactose. Rice syrup may not be suitable for a newborn - true. But Nature's One - Baby's Only manufacturer clearly recommends breast is best for newborns...There may be no perfect formula for a newborn. 3. No cane sugar. Similac Organic is garbage because they add cane sugar as a source of carbs. Way to add to the child diabetic epidemic.
4. It's way less expensive than Earth's Best.
I recommend this formula - my son has had no problems with it and I feel good knowing he's getting ALL organic ingredients.

I am a new mom, and have heard amazing things about HappyBaby's Oatmeal. So, when I got on Amazon to purchase some I was surprised/concerned to see some of the negative reviews about off-coloring and bad smells. I wrote to the company to inquire about the issues people were mentioning, and I got a very good response, almost immediately, from the company. The Director of QA said that the problem was limited to one batch of oatmeal only and is no longer a problem. I thought other parents shopping on Amazon might find his response helpful:
"...this is not a food safety issue, so there's no need to worry. It is, however, an "off product" quality issue, and is caused by oxidation of the oils in the grain (oxidative rancidity), usually by the nitrogen flush we put into the can leaking out due to abuse, improper seaming, etc. The reaction (with oxygen) is a lot like leaving a peeled banana on the table too long...yucky, but not dangerous, so your child is not in any danger. The black flecks are oxidized pieces of the cereal bran, which are usually colourless.

Our June production lot was particularly susceptible to this, so we did two things. First, we strengthened the antioxidant portion of the formula (mixed tocopherols), and the problem literally went away. Secondly, we reached out to our warehouses and store shelves, and replaced as much of the June production lot as we could. However, given the size and complexity of the supply chain, it's nearly impossible to get a 100% catch here, so invariably, some cases stayed around. "
This response really impressed me and made me feel much more confident about purchasing HappyBaby products in the future. They acted quickly, and responded thoroughly and honestly to the issue. They truly seem committed to their mission of supplying customers with the highest quality ingredients...and customer service! I will for sure be buying more HappyBaby products in the future.

Our baby has been on this formula and breast milk for a few months now. She doesn't have much gas from it. It does take some vigorous shaking to totally dissolve the formula. I let it settle a bit prior to giving it to her so that there are less bubbles in the formula which in turn is less air in her belly. I love the larger can, more bang for your buck and am hoping that Amazon puts this on Subscribe and Save soon. I purchased it for 86...it was in the Friday sale section one week. So look there a couple of weeks if you are not in a hurry to get. Price per ounce is still cheaper than the smaller can on subscribe and save.
