It's ionic, it doesn't use those boar bristles, the vents are at the base of the brush to avoid "sucking hair" into the intake, the bristles retract, and it pumps out a lot of heat. My last one was damaged by the baggage handlers at the airport so I've just purchased my second one. I would highly recommend this brush.

(More customer reviews)I selected this product because of a recommendation in a magazine to which I subscribe.
First, I admit I should have paid more attention to the person here in Amazon who complained that the product was too loud. That person is right. On the HIGH setting, the product is very loud and shrill. To avoid harm to my ears, I always use the lower setting.
Secondly, it's big and heavy. I have to use two hands to hold the wand and dry my long hair.
I only find one of the attachments useful. There are two other attachments, but I never switch to either of them.
On a more positive note, it does dry my hair quickly. Also, if I use it like I would a curling iron, (i.e., roll a strand of hair around the brush and hold it there for a few seconds, then unroll it), it gives my hair a gentle curl and nice body.
Bottom line, I find myself going back to my old blow-dryer-and-separate-round-brush method about 50% of the time. If I had to do it over again, I don't think I'd buy this product.

With these 'Salon Edition' hot air brushes (which are very hard to find) I blow my hair roots with the hair dryer until my hair is just alittle damp and then use the hot air brush to give it body. (More customer reviews)I have LONG, STRAIGHT hair that is hard to hold curl. After using my mother's hot air brush that has a rubber-type barrel and dates back to the early 1990's, I searched EVERYWHERE for one like it because it is perfect for my hair type--long, straight and fine. The closest I came to finding one like my mother's was this one (Helen of Troy 1" Model #1574R). The metal barrels do NOT give my hair ANY body or even any curl. Nothing! But this plastic-type barrel gives me softness OR curl, depending on how long I hold it in place. The rubber-type or plastic-type barrel has proven the absolute best for my type of hair. I bought the 1" at an Ulta store this week and am now on Amazon to buy a 1.5" because my hair is so long on the bottom that I want the smaller one to use on the top and sides of my hair and the larger one to use on the bottom. I highly recommend this product because the barrel is so much more conducive to providing body and/or curl to my very straight, fine, hair!!!

I like the size and how it works in my hair but the only way I can use it is to heat it for 30 seconds as directed and then turn it off. After a short time I can use it until it cools down. I have no idea why Conair designed it to be this way.

(More customer reviews)I purchased a "cheap" Conair hot air brush and returned it promptly. The hot air was lukewarm at best, and it was substandard.
This unit gives great hot air, it dries my hair very quickly, thoroughly and easily as it says, and does a good job. The curls it produces seem to last for the entire day. I have fine, straight hair which is easy to dry but difficult for the style to stay.
I do wish it were a bit more compact. It seems slightly bulky to hold but this would not stop me from recommending it or purchasing it again.

(More customer reviews)My hair is fine and thin, but this Conair 2-in-1 Hot Air Styler gives my hair BODY! It's more for styling than drying, so it needn't be extremely hot, which would turn my hair to straw. Also I wouldn't want strong bursts of air blowing away the style. My mistake was to purchase it at a local store rather than at Amazon.com where it costs $10 less.
If you merely want a dryer, you might not like this, but if you want a styler, I recommend it. And it does dry as it styles. Towel dry first, of course.
This is the best thing I've used on my hair. What a joy to finally have hair with body and style! And without damaging my hair!

I had thought that the 'ionic' thing was mostly hype, but started using this product a couple of years ago out of curiosity. My entire life, I have had naturally curly, flyaway hair that was annoyingly prone to frizzing and just generally difficult to manage. I wasn't sure if it was this dryer that had finally started smoothing out my hair, or if it was rather the newer conditioners and styling cremes I had found.
When the ionic brush dryer I was using recently 'died', I was unable to find a replacement in any local stores. So, instead, I bought one that looked exactly the same that wasn't ionic, thinking it really wouldn't make any difference. Boy, was I wrong!!! Immediately, I was again dealing with split ends, frizzies, and flyaway hair.
There HAS to be something to 'ionic' hairdryers that really DOES make a difference, as I changed nothing else. Being the scientific person that I am, I repeated this unplanned 'experiment' at least 3 times. When I use this product, my hair is noticeably silkier, shinier, and bouncier...with healthy waves that hold (I have somewhat thick hair.) The round brush/dryer style also dries my hair much quicker than the way I used to do it for years (with round brushes and typical pistol-style dryers), and with much less arm-fatigue. The heated air dries it from the 'inside out' which styles it at the same time, eliminating my previous need for the use of a curling iron or hot rollers to create soft waves/curls after drying.
I plan to keep a spare one hand for the next time one dies on me suddenly. (I feel like 2 years was a good life, considering the use it got.)
I highly recommend this hair dryer if you have hair like mine.
